Objectives of your foundation training phase
Preparing your body to train – If you build a good foundation now you are more likely to avoid injury throughout your race preparation, as well during the event itself.
- Strength – complete some form of regular strength training
- Mobility – make sure that you get into a routine of regular stretching
Technique
- Have you ever thought about how you run? Good running technique is going to mean that you can run faster for less effort and decrease the chance of injury.
- It is easy to have assessed and improve by spending an hour with a Team CP running coach.

Routine
- Develop a training routine – it doesn’t need to be running it could be the gym, spin classes or social sport. If you have a solid routine everyone in your family will know what you are doing and when.
- If you are in a training routine, it will mean that you are able to be more consistent with your training.
Nutrition
- How is your baseline nutrition?
- Do you focus on eating nutritious food? By nutritious food I mean that if you eat will you get any other vitamins or minerals along with the carbs, fat or protein. For example, compare a refined white bread versus unrefined grainy bread.
Sleep
- Again this is about routine and developing good sleep habits.
- If you improve these now you will be able recover better from your training and generally be a better person to be around 🙂
