The Lake Crichton Series is a three-race series utilising the world class, man-made Lake Crichton. Located on Frasers Road, 25 minutes south of Hornby and 2 kilometres south of Dunsandel. Lake Crichton is extremely safe. The lake is no deeper than 1.7m, naturally heated to mid 20 degrees and only about 50 metres wide. It is a most tranquil setting for a multisport event!
The Friday evening series allows for all competitors, young & old, experienced & first timers, to finish their working week with exercise. You can enter individually or in a team.
There are two race distances in both the triathlon and duathlon (detailed below). The triathlon begins with a lake swim (in water start), followed by a road bike and finished off with an off-road run. The duathlon follows the same bike and run course as the triathlon but has a short run before you get on your bike.
Ellesmere Excavation & Aggregate are the major sponsor of the Lake Crichton Series. Sandy, Leanne, Brenna and the rest of the team at Ellesmere Excavtion & Aggregate are amazing supporters of the Selwyn community, so please support them if you need any aggregate or have any excavation needs.

When overtaking, a competitor has 15 seconds to pass through this zone. The cyclist that has been overtaken then has 15 seconds to drop out of the draft zone. If the manoeuvre fails because the lead rider speeds up, the challenging rider must immediately drop back out of the zone and may not challenge again until 15 seconds has lapsed. First violation is a stand down; second violation will result in disqualification. In summary the zone requires a rider to ride single file with at least 3 bike lengths between the lead and the following bikes; measured from the rear wheel of lead bike and front wheel edge of following.
